The genetics of my Welsh Ponies:

First of all, Starflight could potentially lose proof of his heritage because I bought him from somebody else, so I need to describe it here while there are still people out there who can confirm it.  So, here I go:
  • 1849's parents are Ouranos and Ga�a.
  • bambi's parents are 1849 and Phoebe.
  • Phoebe's parents are Ouranos and Ga�a.
  • Enchanter's parents are Ouranos and Ga�a.
  • Starflight's parents are bambi and Enchanter.
I'm hereby convinced beyond all doubt that Starflight is 100% certifiably *never inbred* (NIB)!

Now, we all know Serendipity is 100% pure NIB Welsh Pony because she's a foundation.  However, she's getting too old to have babies, and so Ms Xymon is raising another Welsh Pony named Snow White NIB2 to carry Serendipity's babies.  The nature of the game is that the babies' heritage will actually come from Starflight and Snow White NIB2, so I'll have to show you her family tree too.  If you can verify this while all the ponies in her family tree still exist, could you please vouch for me?  Same with Starflight.

First, I breed 100% pure Welsh Ponies.  I thought I'd get that out of the way because it's so short and simple.  Now onto the more complicated part:

I have no ponies who I can prove were definitely inbred, but I do have a lot who I can't prove that they weren't.  Therefore, I'm adding a column called "Genes" to my table in the stats section that will show their inbred status.  I wish I could use the acronym "NIB" for my "never inbred" ponies, but it's already defined by a large community on Howrse.  In case I have any honour with them, I will use their definition for "NIB" to ensure that honour is justified and kept intact just in case I get a breeding opportunity with them.

NIB means "Non-Inbred" (or some say it's "Non-Inbred Breeder").  The way they define it is that if you look at the pony's family tree and follow every branch back to Ouranos and Ga�a, you will never find the same pony twice (with the exceptions of Ouranos and Ga�a).

For my own definition, at least until I think of something better, I'll simply list the ponies that qualify as "clean."  My definition is that the ponies must meet the following conditions:

The family tree must contain absolutely no:
  • siblings or half-siblings.
  • mated father+daughter, mother+son, grandfather+granddaughter, etc..
  • missing branches that have not been confirmed to meet the above conditions.
I permit family relations as close as first cousins to mate, but I prefer the most distant relationship I can find.  Just to be clear (especially if you have some knowledge of maths or computer programming), if pony-A had a baby who had a baby who had a baby (pattern continues for N generations where N can be any positive integer) who then had pony-X, and somehow, pony-A were still alive, if pony-A and pony-X mated and had a baby, that baby and all future generations of that baby would fail my criteria of "clean" genes.  The ponies bred on my farm are monogamous too, which admittedly creates additional difficulty finding "clean" mates, but I'm gladly up to the challenge.

NIB breeders: my ponies that are listed as NIB are 100% guaranteed to meet your criteria!  Since NIB criteria are more strict than my "clean" criteria, all ponies who satisfy the NIB definition are guaranteed to satisfy the "clean" definition, but ponies who satisfy the "clean" definition do not necessarily satisfy the NIB definition.

On another note, the list immediately following this paragraph is quickly becoming redundant due to the features being added to other sections that display the same information, but in a cleaner, more concise way.  I don't plan to add any ponies to this section henceforth.  Furthermore, I plan to delete each existing entry when both ponies in that entry are dead. ='(  If the only living ponies remaining on this list are immortal, I plan to delete the list and this paragraph.  This should give you plenty of time to explore the other sections.  If you've already done so and still want me to keep this section active and/or here, please write to me and tell me why.

Here, I record every birthday over the last 30 days, plus the most recent birthday of every pony even if it was more than 30 days ago.  Ponies who have not yet had a birthday under my care are not listed.

I also post all the birthdays expected over the next 30 days as well as the next birthday of every pony even if it's expected more than 30 days from now.  Projections can change without notice due to events that can't be precisely predicted, such as births, deaths, and things that may happen to me or my internet service that might keep me from logging onto the game.

Memorial: a list of ponies who have died

This may not make much sense to you.  If not, don't worry about it.  I'll try to explain though:

On the left is the name of the pony.  The ponies on the bottom are the oldest, and they are arranged in pairs.  It goes from the bottom: Oldest mare, her mate same age, two years younger mare, her mate, etc.

Next, you see numbers, like 11/12.  These are the age of the pony/the age pony should be.  Ponies whose first number is lower than their second number are currently being worked.  If there's a dash after the first number, the second number is a month.  If there's a dash after the slash, that's a negative number, which means these ponies shouldn't have been born yet, but since they have, they're in stasus until I have room in my ponies' family tree to begin working them.  If the number on the left is larger than the number after the slash, that means that pony has somehow been over-aged, and will not be worked until his or her mate catches up with him or her.  An example would be Serendipity, who was worked exclusively in order for me to raise the money for me to buy the rest of my ponies.

Then there's a number followed by "e" (equus) and a place and date.  That's the most the pony has ever won in a competition, the best place the pony has ever achieved in a competition, and the most recent date that pony made the achievement.

If there's another date, that means the first date is the first time that pony ever achieved 1st place, and the second date is the most recent time that pony achieved 1st place.  The money is always the most the pony has ever won in a competition.

Right now, there is an entry stating that I need a female of unconfirmed breeding.  I do need her to be 100% pure Welsh Pony, and it should be impossible to prove that she's imbred, but it should also be impossible to prove that she's NOT imbred.  Save the NIB mare for when I need a NIB mare.  All ponies MUST be genetically viable. (Sorry, NO GELDINGS!)
